The weekly recap newsletter
If you sign up for the weekly recap, the site collects your email address — nothing else. The sign-up form asks only for an email address. It is stored with Resend, the email service that sends the recap, in a list used only for that newsletter.
Sign-up is double opt-in: you receive a confirmation email and only start getting the recap after you click the confirmation link. Every recap email includes an unsubscribe link, and the sender address on the emails includes a postal address. To stop the emails, use the unsubscribe link in any email, or write to hello@thisoldrecap.com and ask for your address to be removed.
Analytics
The site measures aggregate readership with Google Analytics (GA4) and with Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights, which report overall performance. Google Analytics loads only after a browser check that skips headless and automated traffic, and it uses cookies in your browser. There is no cookie banner on this site; you can block analytics with your browser settings or an extension.
Analytics here means counts — which pages are read, and how the site performs. It is not used to build a profile of any individual reader, and the site has no accounts, comments, or payments, so there is no account or purchase history to collect.
Bot protection
Episode and tag pages and the newsletter sign-up use a bot check (BotId) to tell automated traffic apart from real readers. The sign-up form also rate-limits repeated attempts from the same address.
Affiliate links
Some tool and product links go to Amazon search results. If you buy something after clicking one, the site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you — as an Amazon Associate, This Old Recap earns from qualifying purchases. Clicking a link takes you to Amazon, which has its own privacy policy; this site does not receive your Amazon account details or purchase history.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Vercel, and episode text is read from a Supabase database when pages are built or refreshed. Both process requests as part of serving the site, as any host does.
